5 held for murder of woman over Raksha Bandhan visit

Five individuals were apprehended in Firozabad for the murder of Raunak, a 22-year-old woman. Her husband, Prashant Kumar, killed her because she wanted to visit her parental home for Raksha Bandhan. With the help of his family, he disposed of her body in a canal. The police are continuing their investigation.

AGRA: Five people were arrested on Thursday for the murder of a 22-year-old woman in Bhimnagar, under the jurisdiction of Rasoolpur police station in Firozabad, after she insisted on visiting her parental home for Raksha Bandhan.
Prashant Kumar (40), alias Jackie, a history sheeter, killed his wife Raunak, who he married in Nov 2023. Raunak had expressed her desire to visit her parental home for Raksha Bandhan on Aug 18, which reportedly enraged Prashant.

In a fit of rage, he killed her, and with the help of his family, packed the body in a suitcase and dumped it in a nearby canal at midnight.
Acting on a tip-off, police arrested Prashant, his parents, and two accomplices. They deployed divers to search for Raunak's body in the canal, and the search is ongoing. A family member, a sister-in-law, remains absconding. Prashant and father, Mahiapal, have criminal records.
SHO Rasoolpur police station Pramod Panwar said, “The family confessed to the crime after interrogation. CCTV footage captured them fuelling the car used to transport the body. All five accused have been sent to jail, and investigation is under way.”
